About the Covers
This project is a study of allegorical and literal imagery, and an attempt to translate not only the lyrics and themes, but a whole emotional and lyrical theme of each album into visual art.
The illustrations for each of Florence + the Machine Albums capture the whimsical nature, thematic richness, and imagination of the artist and the music she creates. The art style is inspired by detailed woodcut prints of folk art, and almost every detail refers to the titles or lyrics of the songs in each album. While "Lungs" is more focused on nature, animals, and human's physical connecting to the world, "How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful" ventures outside the realms of the physical, with lyrics mentioning kings and queens, gods, saints, the sea and the sky, and the connection of the spirit to the universe.
